Does Homeopathic HCG Really Work for Weight Loss?

Most of the public information on HCG is merely duplicated from a few superficial sources. Almost nothing original or new is available on the most important basic facts about this hormone. It is nearly impossible for the non-scientist to find out anything about the real science behind it. This is even truer for homeopathic HCG. Unfortunately, medical professionals who have no scientific background are writing about it, and too many non-medical people are thoughtlessly repeating what the doctors are saying.



The first thing to know about HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is that this hormone is a very complicated protein molecule. This just means that no synthetic versions are available. Nevertheless, two kinds of HCG products that are on the market right now do not contain the complete native hormone. One of these is homeopathic HCG and the other is genetically engineered HCG. This article addresses the first of these. Genetically engineered HCG is the subject of a separate article.



WHAT IS HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE?



You must first understand what homeopathy is before you can evaluate what I have to say about homeopathic HCG. This approach to medicine has two fundamental differences from naturopathic or allopathic medicine. Standard thinking in these latter two treatment modalities are what I call 'dose-dependent' - in other words, the medicinal activity of a substance depends on its dosage. For example, when you take a higher dose of aspirin, you will increase its affect on your body. What you take a sufficient dose of it, aspirin will counteract the symptoms that you want to suppress.



In contrast, homeopathic medicine adheres to something called the 'Law of Similars', or 'like cures like'. This means that a symptom is curable by a substance that causes that symptom. Since aspirin does not cause fever, it is not homeopathic.



Homeopathic medicines also become more powerful when they are diluted. By diluting a solution that contains a homeopathic substance (i.e., decreasing its concentration), the strength of the medicine becomes greater. Successive 10-fold or 100-fold dilutions make the medicine stronger and stronger. Indeed, the most powerful homeopathic drugs are so dilute that there is almost no statistical chance for any of the starter substance to remain in solution.



By the way, homeopathic medicine is very effective, and plenty of scientific research backs this up. Nobody knows, however, how a solution of homeopathic water that contains none of the original substance still works. Although the principles of homeopathy do not fit into 'normal' scientific explanations, the experimental results of this modality support its effectiveness.



Homeopathic HCG fits neither of the basic principles of homeopathic medicine. HCG does not cause people to get fat, so it does not satisfy the Law of Similars. Serial dilutions of hormones in general lead to loss of effectiveness. This raises the question about how effective can homeopathic HCG be? This is where we have to look at results.



ABSENCE OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ON HOMEOPATHIC HCG



My favorite source of information on medical research is the PubMed database at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, which offers titles and abstracts from thousands of scientific journals. As of July 2009, a search for articles involving 'human chorionic gonadotropin' found 519 research articles on this topic. A co-search of this term with 'homeopathy' or 'homeopathic' yielded no articles at all.



This does not mean that no research has been done or is being done on homeopathic HCG. It just means that there are no studies that have been published for public examination. This is in spite of the fact that a handful of scientific journals are dedicated to homeopathic medicine. No homeopathic researcher has published a study on HCG.



VALUE OF TESTIMONIALS



The only accessible evidence for the effectiveness of homeopathic HCG is through the hundreds or thousands of testimonials by people who have used it, by physicians who have prescribed it, or by marketing sites that tout it as the best thing since sliced bread. These are impossible to evaluate scientifically.



The definitive information that you must have on homeopathic HCG is whether it directs your body to burn fat. That is what HCG does, and that is the foundation for the discovery by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons more than 60 years ago. If you begin a program of 500 calories per day, supplementing with homeopathic HCG, you will certainly Lose Weight. The critical measure, however, is whether your percent body fat drops.



THE ONLY EVIDENCE THAT YOU MUST HAVE



Testimonials do not suffice as scientific evidence for anything. The only way for you to know whether homeopathic HCG works for you is for you to use it while keeping track of your percent body fat. When you Lose Weight without losing body fat, then all you are doing is starving yourself on 500 calories per day. Everyone will lose weight this way. When you lose weight AND body fat percentage, then you know that the homeopathic preparation is working to make your body burn fat.



The bottom line is that there is no solid scientific evidence for the effectiveness of homeopathic HCG. Keep in mind that absence of evidence does not mean that it doesn't work. It is simply an absence of evidence. Your option is to wait for a study to be completed, which may not happen for years, or experiment with it yourself to find out whether it works for you. However, the pitfalls of experimenting on yourself outweigh the certainty of using a well-established weight loss program using non-homeopathic HCG. That is my recommendation, at least until I see some solid scientific evidence in support of homeopathic HCG.

3 Big mistakes that can ruin your weight loss


Losing weight can be a very tough and frustrating process. But with the right mindset and attitude it doesn’t have to be that way. One very important thing to do before you start your weight loss journey is to learn about common mistakes people do, and then don’t do them your self!

These are three of the most common mistakes that people do when it comes to weight loss:

1. Quitting to soon

Many people quit with their diet and exercising programs to soon. It could be because they got to little time to exercise one day so they miss one training pass. And then they lose motivation, and then they skip a few more training passes, and before you know it they quit training all together.

If you don’t have enough time to do your usual exercise, then use all the time that you got. If you only got 10 minutes over, great use that to train then, it’s better to train for 10 minutes then nothing at all.

Same thing with the diet, lets say around Christmas and you eat a bit too much and a bit unhealthy one day. Many people feel very tempted to stop the diet and go back to their old food habits after that. You have to learn to stick to it even after one of those nights.

And remember that just because you have broken your diet or exercising plan once or twice doesn’t mean that you have failed. Just make sure that you step it up and do the right thing next time.

2. Expecting weight loss overnight

When you start with your weight loss don’t expect that you’re going to see results in the first few days, maybe even in your first week. Many people when they start out they keep going for like a week and then they look at the scale and maybe they haven’t lost anything or just not as much as they expected. And they get frustrated because of it, and maybe keep going for a few more days and still they don’t lose as much as they want, so they stop because they lose all motivation. You didn’t gain all of your weight overnight, and neither will you lose it overnight. You need to understand this before you start your weight loss.

One thing to remember about this is that you shouldn’t only be watching the scale when you start your training and diet. You should start to feel more energetic, you can begin to feel less stressed during the days, maybe even sleep better! So don’t just focus on the scale, focus on everything else that also comes with eating healthy and training.

3. Having the wrong attitude

When you start out and you get a training program that you plan to stick to, and it says that you’re going to train maybe 4-5 times a week. You can get very discouraged because most people feel that exercise is like a punishment, a chore, which has to be done.

And with that attitude towards training, chances are that you will lose all your motivation for training quite quickly.

Training should be a fun thing to do. Something that you should look forward to. And if you don’t feel that about your training you should consider changing your training and start doing something else. If you’re out jogging 3 times a week, and you really hate jogging, then change it. Start with power walking 4 times a week, or start dancing or something that you enjoy.

The diet with negative calorie foods can be tailored for fast or gradual weight loss. The fast weight loss diet that can lower the weight up to two pounds per day, is not recommended for long term. The gradual weight loss diet can reduce one pound in a week and can be followed until desired weight is achieved. The diet can be made according to ones needs. The negative calorie foods will not give you much benefit if you are eating foods loaded with fats and sugars. What Sugar Does To Your Body

Raise your hand if you like sugar? If you are a dentist your hand just went up. And if you are like most Americans your hand went up, too. And that's a problem. A big one!

With the United States facing an obesity epidemic the consumption of refined sugar doesn't help. The average American eats about 175 pounds of sugar each year. Compare that to the 1915 average of about 15 pounds per year.

Wow! That's pretty scary. But the major problem is that refined sugar can be found in pretty much all packaged food. Obviously there are some exceptions. But the majority of food you find in the supermarket has some sort of sugar in it. Especially the processed foods. Some of the more popular ways to sneak sugar in your food is with ingredients such as sucrose, fructose, corn syrup, glucose, and maltose. There are many more.

Refined sugar will fatten you up for sure if you eat enough. And it will keep you from achieving that dream body you want. It's simply empty calories. It contains no fiber, no protein, no vitamins, and no minerals. Nothing. Wait a minute that sounds like'. Water! Ah, YES! But your body isn't made up of 75% sugar, now is it? When you eat refined sugar to your body it is seen as an Invader. Alien life forms come down to do harm to you.

You see when you eat refined sugar your body needs to take nutrients from other cells in the body in order to metabolize it because refined sugar lacks the ability to do so on it's on. Minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium are taken from vital points of the body to make use of the sugar you just ingested. So vital things that require those minerals get done a lot slower, and a lot less efficient over time.

And obviously with the loss of calcium to help with the sugar onslaught, your bones will weaken. Thus, increasing the chances of osteoporosis, breaks, and fractures later on in life. Calcium loss also affects the teeth. Tooth decay. Dentists love sugar too. Dentists on average rake in about $50 billion worldwide. How much of that do you think is a direct result of refined sugar consumption?

Another common problem with eating a lot of sugar is the onset of diabetes. Sugar raises the blood sugar levels in your body very quickly and causes insulin to release from the pancreas. Your body will constantly be working throughout the day if you eat a lot of sugar. If you keep up your sugar eating ways your pancreas won't be able to perform it's job and then you'll have some big trouble with the onset of diabetes.

Who wants that? No one! Then we also have problems with energy. Did you ever get what is known as a 'sugar high'? It doesn't last long does it? Your tired already, are craving sugar, eat sugar, feel good, little time passes, and then CRASH! You come back down off the 'high'. You feel even more tired, hungrier, and have less energy. Do you like having no energy? You want your energy that will last a long time-- eat a sweet potato, not a Ding Dong.

So now it's about time to kick your sugar addiction. Not so fast-- Getting off your sugar addiction is not as easy as you think it is. Sugar can very well be called a drug. It's addictive. People that try to get off their sugar diet experience much the same things as smokers, caffeine addicts, and narcotics users. They get headaches, anxiety, depression, mood swings, and more.

It's best to slowly wean yourself off of refined sugar. Don't do it all at once. Going from eating donuts and coffee, and McDonalds for lunch and dinner to eating oatmeal and steamed broccoli, chicken and egg whites is not going to work. Once a week try and eliminate something from your diet that contains refined sugar and replace it with something natural.

Last point is not to suppress your cravings completely. Simply feed it. But savor each bite and keep the portion small. Good luck!

Fasting, when done properly, can be a basic part of a solid weight loss plan. If done correctly it can be a great start to your new way of living.

When I first started my weight loss program I began with a fast. I have fasted for 2-7 days on a few different occasions. The reason that fasting can be such a great way to start a weight loss program is because you can see results immediately.

It will also make it very easy to stick to your diet for the first week. After not eating for a few days, your food will taste better. This is a great time to go a few days eating only fruits and vegetables. This can easily turn your two day fast into a 7 day, full body cleanse.

Fasting can make you look much thinner in only a couple days. You may not lose a significant amount of weight, but it will look like you have. It can make your waist noticeably thinner and clear up blemishes or skin problems.

Although I do not think fasting is to be used specifically for weight loss, I think you can do it to get your body ready for a healthier way of living. Use it as a way to cleanse your body out and get rid of all the toxins clogging your system.

I suggest drinking fruit and vegetable juices while fasting. I have read that you should do a water fast, but it can be a miserable experience if you have never fasted before. So stick to natural juices.

One of the better results I saw from my fasting experience was that I have more self control over my eating habits. I have always been a binge type of eater. After my fast, I felt like I could restrain myself easier. It is probably a mental attribute. I mean if I can go without eating for 7 days then I can sure keep myself from eating something I shouldn’t.

So although I don’t think you can use fasting as a diet or weight loss program, I do feel that it can be a great start to a proper weight Loss Diet and exercise program. I think it is definitely something that everybody should do at least once a year.

If you have any health problems you should consult a physician before starting any weight loss program. And, if you absolutely cannot go without food then simply try going a few days eating vegetables and fruits only. This will give you most of the same results as the fasting will. However, I recommend the fast over the fruits and vegetables because of the confidence and control you will begin to enjoy as a result.

We have heard it so many times before that there are many benefits to exercise especially when used to lower stress. If everyone knows that exercise is important then why is stress, disease, and fatigue so prevalent in today's society? The answer is simple. We know what to do we just aren't doing it.

Exercise can also improve self-esteem and self worth by realizing that you are benefit directly. You may feel more outgoing and social because of the increased energy and also a better physique creating more confidence and positive self image. Your self-esteem may be enhanced by taking on exercise challenges or goals, giving you a feeling of accomplishment and reward.

Aerobic exercise is an activity that uses major muscle groups such as walking, running, swimming, and cycling. This type of exercise strengthens your cardiovascular system by increasing your heart and respiratory rate and brings in more oxygen into the body. To reap the full benefits of aerobic exercise, you must be at 60%-80% of your target heart rate for at least 20 minutes, between three and five times a week.

To calculate your target heart rate use the following formula:
Take 220 - (subtract) your age X (multiply 60%, or 70%, etc. intensity rate.) = Target heart rate (divide by six for a ten second pulse count. Take your pulse for ten seconds and gage where you are during the workout. Speed up the pace if you are below 60%.

Select exercises that you enjoy and can do for at least 20 minutes, three to five days a week. Exercise does not necessarily mean hitting the gym and making an ordeal out of it. It can simply be a walk around your neighborhood or dancing to some tunes. Try to think "activity" verses "exercise". When you are in an active mind-frame, you will purposely park a little farther, do stretches at the computer, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc.

Commit that you will begin to be more active and stick to your exercises or activities for 21 days. Why 21? Research has showed that it takes about 21 days to create a habit. Document how your feel after the 21 days. Your stress levels should be lowered, you should feel more energized, and see some physical changes such as a slimmer physique.

2) On the other hand, keeping the bedroom dark or in subdued light can signal to the body that it is time to sleep.

3) Chronotherapy. Delay bedtime by two or three hours progressively every night for several succeeding nights. For example, if your teen usually sleeps at midnight, you can make him/her stay up until 2 or 3 am and get up at 10 or 11 am. The next night, he/she will sleep at 6 am and wake up at 2 pm, and so on. Continue with this until you reach the desired bedtime. This may be best to do towards the end of the summer break.

4) Medications with melatonin. Melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone, can help. Let your teen take it five hours before the desired bedtime. Taking this, though, should be more of a last resort as this can have side effects. It is best to take this under a doctor’s supervision.

Apart from these treatments, you can do the following to help your teens sleep better:

1) Encourage them to exercise during the day, but not within three hours before bedtime. Regular exercise can help establish healthy sleep patterns.

2) Discourage them to do homework or anything mentally stimulating one hour before bedtime.

3) Decrease caffeine in their diet.

4) Remove distractions from their bedroom, like the telephone or TV.

5) If they are worried about the things to do the next day, let them make a list to eliminate anxiety for the moment.

Though insomnia in teenagers can be serious, it is treatable. With you and your teens working together, they can sleep better and be healthier.

Avoid These 4 Foods For Tinnitus Relief

The American Tinnitus Association states that while there is no actual tinnitus cure at this time, there are many ways to manage it. Here are some common foods and food additives that are known to make tinnitus worse. Try removing these four things from your diet and see if you get partial or even total tinnitus relief.



Too much salt restricts blood vessels, increases blood pressure and reduces blood flow into the ears. Increase in blood pressure is directly linked to increased tinnitus. When salt intake is reduced, many people notice a lessening of ringing in the ears.

Vitamin D - The Vitamin for Hair Loss

It seems that the vitamin for hair loss is vitamin D. Research on mice shows that vitamin D, namely 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D regulates the expression of genes of the skin. When scientists knocked out those genes, the mice displayed vitamin D deficient symptoms of rickets and hair loss. They had total hair loss at 8 months old with the formation of dermal cysts starting at the age of 3 weeks.

This is a strong indication that hair loss in young men could be a result of a lack of vitamin D. It isn't conclusive since scientists deliberately knocked out the genes responsible rather than depriving the mice of vitamin D itself. It also doesn't rule out many other factors which could be involved in the process of hair loss.

Is vitamin D the only possible vitamin for hair loss, or are there other nutrients which link to the biological processes of this vitamin? Omega 3 happens to be one of them.


The Essential Fatty Acid link
Maybe it isn't the modern indoor lifestyle which is to blame, but the increasing deficiency of Essential Fatty Acids in our diet, especially Omega 3. It has been shown that the essential fatty acids help eliminate eczema, psoriasis, dandruff, help prevent hair loss by controlling the flow of oils and nourish collagen, the supporting structure beneath the skin.

So, what is the link to vitamin D? Believe it or not essential fatty acids aid in the production and excess removal of cholesterol. As well as being necessary for many vital bodily functions, cholesterol is required for the body to manufacture its own vitamin D, which, as I have shown, seems to be the key vitamin for hair loss.

If you suffer from a scalp condition, such as flaky scalp or psoriasis as well as hair loss, then this would seem to be the problem. As well as vitamin D and the essential fatty acids, I would recommend a shampoo treatment such as those which contain coal tar. Is it just these two nutrients that we should be concentrating on? Well, there's more.


Iron and L-lysine deficiencies
Serum ferritin provides a good assessment of iron content in the body. For the last 40 years it has been shown that a low level of serrum ferritin has been associated with female hair loss. The same is true for L-lysine, the essential amino acid. In a double-blind study, women with hair loss responded well to both iron and L-lysine therapy.


Copper and zinc deficiencies
According to scientific studies on mice, excess zinc causes hair loss due to the out of balance ratio between copper and zinc. It's not the zinc itself that caused the hair loss; in fact, zinc sulfate was found to be an inhibitor of DHT production (DHT is the chemical which is said to cause hair loss in men).
Also, lack of copper is also known to breakdown proteins, including those in both nails and hair. A different experiment showed that deficiencies in the copper / zinc ratio causes hair cells in mice to die off. Again, copper as copper chloride, although not fully tested, has shown to have positive results for hair loss. Incredibly, new research (June 2006) shows that a copper peptide injected into the skin induced very strong hair follicle growth. This all points to a lack of copper as a real cause of hair loss (and allergies).
The message here is not to overdose on zinc without taking copper as well. In fact high dosages of both might be beneficial; although, copper really does seem to be the mineral for hair loss.

Sesame and flaxseed are believed by Chinese women to be good for the hair and scalp. Sesame has unsurprisingly high amounts of copper and zinc, plus lignans.


Soybean extract and isoflavones
Ingredients in soy, namely the isoflavones, reduced DHT in the blood plasma (DHT is said to be responsible for hair loss). DHT is converted from testosterone by an enzyme called 5a-reductase. Soy extracts were shown to inhibit this enzyme. It should also prevent prostate cancer as prostate cancer is also reported to be associated with an increase in DHT.


Vegetarianism and hair loss - vitamin b12
Vegetarians often lack vitamin B12. In fact, 40% of the American population does according to a study by Tuffs university in 2001. But the study says that it isn't people aren't eating enough meat but that the vitamin isn't being absorbed. Also what is interesting is the fact that young people in their twenties had the same deficiencies as those 65 and older. Lack of vitamin B12 is a known vitamin for hair loss. So how do you increase your absorption of vitamin B12?


The digestive system
If you are not absorbing vitamins and minerals correctly, then the gut is not working properly. Before taking any vitamin for hair loss, or any other nutritional supplement, the gut has to be cleansed. The poor absorption could be due to parasites and bad bacteria working in the gut. The Key To Losing Weight And Keeping It Off

Do you want to Lose Weight? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this. Let me ask you another question. For how long do you want to Lose Weight?

16-Step Diet Plan

Step 1. Say Goodbye to Dieting - Forget all about dieting! The words diet and dieting are getting in your way! They are preventing you from tackling your weight problem. Every time you hear these words you switch off and reach for the cookies. Result? Your weight problem gets worse.

Step 2. Say Hello to Healthy Eating - Healthy eating sounds so much nicer than dieting. Start using that phrase today.

Step 3. Put Away Your Scales - Weighing scales don't make you Lose Weight. They just scare you to death. Put them away now! (Actually, don't put them away until you complete Step 5.)

Step 4. Stop Worrying About Your Weight - Why? Worry makes you miserable and makes you feel more of a failure. Result? You are beaten before you start.

Step 5. Take Your Clothes Off and Look at Yourself in the Mirror - Do it tomorrow morning, before breakfast. At the same time, weigh yourself.

Step 6. Start Looking Ahead - Don't worry about how you will look next week. Take a longer-term view like 6 months.

Step 7. For the Next Week Keep a Food Diary - Write down every single thing you eat and when you eat it. Don't waste time cheating. The purpose of this diary is to enable you to see what you actually eat, as opposed to what you think you eat!

Step 8. Create a Healthy Eating Plan for Yourself - Keep it simple:

*Eat regular amounts of these foods:

Fruit, vegetables (fresh/frozen/canned), whole wheat bread, oats, beans and peas, wholegrain cereal.

Guide: Eat a minimum of 5 helpings of fruit & vegetables, per day.

Guide: Eat a minimum of 5 helpings of whole wheat or wholegrain foods, per day.

*Eat regular amounts of these foods:

Skimmed milk, fat-free yogurt, lower-fat cheese.

Guide: Eat a minimum of 3 helpings of lower-fat dairy foods (milk, yogurt) per day.

Guide: Limit yourself to a maximum of 1 small piece of cheese, per day.

*Eat smaller amounts of these protein foods:

Eggs, fish, turkey and chicken.

Guide: Eat no more than 4 eggs a week.

Guide: Red meat, limit yourself to 1 small portion 3 times a week (size of deck of cards).

Guide: Fish, turkey or chicken, you can eat 50% more - but no fat!

*Eat VERY SMALL amounts of these foods:

Oil (except olive oil), butter, margarine, mayonnaise, white flour, refined sugar.

*Drinks

Water, water, water, fruit juices, tea or coffee (but easy on Espressos!)

*Enjoy the occasional:

Pastry, cookie, candy bar/chocolate, bag of popcorn/potato chips/crisps

Guide: 'Occasional' means once a week.

Step 9. Fill Your Refrigerator with Healthy Food - We eat whatever sits in our refrigerator. So empty out the junk food and fill up on foods from Step 8.

Step 10. Learn How to Cheat - Do you hate fruit and vegetables? That's tough. You MUST make friends with fruit and vegetables. Eat at least 5 helpings per day, although more is better. There are no substitutions. However, you can cheat. Here's how:

*Make home made soup. Ideally, add spices, a little lean meat and lots of vegetables.

You won't taste the vegetables.

*Make fresh orange juice

Many people won't eat 3 whole oranges every day. But they will drink the juice!

*Make blended fruit drinks (smoothies)

Guide: Use 1 cup of fresh fruit + 1 cup fruit juice. For extra creaminess add a little fat-free fruit yogurt.

Step 11. Trim That Fat - Get into the habit of trimming all the fat off meat. All means all. This alone will save you thousands of calories AND help you to live longer.

Step 12. Learn How to Snack Healthily - Fruit, cereal and fat-free yogurt are excellent choices, so are thick sandwiches (lots of thick crusty bread, small amount of margarine/spread, lots of lower fat filling.)

Step 13. Be Choosy Where You Dine Out - Frequent dining out (main meal) is one of the biggest reasons why America is so fat. So be choosy!

*Don't enter a fast food restaurant unless it's a SPECIAL treat.

*Limit yourself to one dining out experience, per fortnight.

Step 14. Don't Go Hungry - Never allow yourself to go hungry. Your metabolism will slow down.

Step 15. Be More Active - Set aside 20 minutes a day to exercise and gradually build up to 30 minutes a day. Yes, you may hate it to begin with, but with time, exercise grows on you! Besides, it's worth remembering that exercise leaves you with MORE energy and burns fat.

Step 16. Follow These Simple Steps for 3 Months - By then you should have lost an easy 15-30 pounds. The best thing is: Your eating habits will have improved tremendously. This means you stand an excellent chance of keeping off the weight and getting your weight problem under control for good!
